Dubai is known for its giant modern construction projects. This impressive, recently built villa, may look rather classic on the outside but is thoroughly contemporary inside. The integrated home automation system takes residential comfort to the highest level. Lighting, surveillance cameras, motorized curtains, air conditioning and more. Everything is connected, integrated and managed from a limited number of wall panels.
A family home with lots of space
The stately villa offers ample space for all nine residents with a plot size of no less than 20,000 square feet (2000m²). It is a home to get lost in, with extra-large bedrooms, multiple kitchens and dining areas, a master suite with a separate sitting area, a luxurious walking closet, a dressing room, and two ‘majlis’- typical Arabic sitting areas for female and male guests. The impressive interior is predominantly white and finished with quality natural materials such as wood, natural stone and abundant marble.
Home automation planned at the design stage
For the owner, it was clear that he wanted to install home automation even before construction started. There were many technical systems planned to be installed and it would become too complicated to manage them without a full- integrated control system. This was anticipated right from the design phase, as it is the custom in Dubai to use concrete and stone in residential construction, which leaves few options for retrofitting changes to the wiring.
A solid and reliable brand
The client chose home automation by TELETASK, installed by UTS (United Turnkey Systems), a Dubai-based and experienced integrator. Asked about his preference for TELETASK, he explains: “The ease of use, the beautiful design of the control panels on the wall, the durability and the robustness of the system, which means hardly any maintenance or repairs are needed. It is a reliable brand with decades of product development under its belt. For me, TELETASK stands for high-end European quality. The system can be integrated with many different technologies, it is easy to configure and very user-friendly.”
12-metre high entrance hall
Upon entering the villa, the height of the entrance hall immediately catches the eye. The glass wall at the front door spans two floors and is 12 metres high. For privacy reasons, there are six curtains that would be difficult to open and close manually because of their size. Therefore, this is done via a motorised system controlled by TELETASK. 40 curtains throughout the villa automatically close at sunset, and open again at sunrise. In the children's bedrooms, this automation has an additional purpose: on school days, the system was configured to open the curtains, turn on the lights and turn off the air conditioning when it is time to get up.
Programming according to sunrise and sunset
The residents had different preset moods configured, for instance for holidays or when they have visitors. In addition, there are also year-long settings. Because Dubai has harsh weather conditions, to save energy and time, many functions were set according to sunrise and sunset. Not just the indoor and outdoor lighting, the air conditioning - indispensable in Dubai - and the curtains, but also 22 CCTV-cameras around the house, and a multi-zone audio system are connected to online streaming amplifiers.
Sensors contribute to energy efficiency
The air conditioning, a Mitsubishi system, only gets turned off in winter. “It is more energy-efficient to run the air conditioner constantly because otherwise, it takes longer to cool down the house again,” explains the owner. “I regard sustainability and energy saving as very important. Besides the automation with time settings, the motion sensors are also important. In places where daylight enters, the sensors connected to the lighting are configured to switch off during the day. In other places - for example in the corridors and dressing rooms - the sensors remain activated but the light only switches on when someone is present. The exhaust fans in the kitchens and toilets also work with sensors, combined with a timer.” The villa's facade, garden and swimming pool are beautifully lit when it gets dark, but step by step the lights switch off during the evening and night. Again, to save energy, but also to sleep better.
Full 3D floor plan in a central touch screen
For the villa's residents, home automation is a great asset. “TELETASK really makes my life easier,” explains the owner. “We opted for a MAIOR 19” touch screen that shows the entire 3D floor plan of our home, including the furniture. This gives us a good overview of the whole villa and the different floors. In fact, we use it as a building management system to monitor the house. Before I go to sleep, I can easily check everything. I can even see how much water is left in the storage tank on the roof.”
Living without a key
Besides the large touch screen, the villa was equipped with two OPUS touch screens. Each room has an AURUS-OLED panel connected with regular light buttons. Moreover, the owner is a big fan of the TELETASK app. “I never use a key,” he says. “The front door opens with my fingerprint and I don't need a car key for my Tesla, but I also don't need a key to drive the car into the garage. I can just open it with the TELETASK app. Thanks to geofencing, the app in my iPhone automatically opens when I am 100 metres from home. This way, I can get in without stopping.” The TELETASK home automation system has certainly lived up to the villa residents' expectations: “It gives us comfort and convenience, and it saves time and energy. Since they have seen our project, family and acquaintances have also decided to use it.”
