BOONS FIS equips new industrial building with TELETASK home automation

Home automation for a building in an industrial zone? BOONS FIS did it. The family business, which specialises in equipment for industrial cleaning, handling and hygiene, has a TELETASK home automation system installed in its new business facility in Deinze/Belgium. As a result, the company now has an up-to-date, extremely energy-efficient and functional building, ready for the next growth phase of this fast growing SME.

A family business in Growth Mode

BOONS FIS, a family-owned company with locations in Nazareth and Tiel, has been specializing in industrial cleaning, handling, and hygiene equipment for many years. With its own range of innovative cleaning systems, BOONS FIS focuses on ease of use, ecological sustainability, and digital data management. The company primarily serves clients in the food industry but is active in various sectors. BOONS FIS offers both standard solutions and custom projects, aiming for long-term customer relationships through reliable products, excellent service, and maintenance by skilled personnel. Their solutions evolve with the changing needs of customers, a strategy that has proven successful.

When the previous location became too small, the company began construction of a new building in the De Prijkels industrial zone in Deinze in 2021. This new facility includes a production area, a warehouse, and a demo room for professional clients. It was also during this time that TELETASK home automation crossed our path.

The benefits of home automation for a business building

For the electrical installation, we collaborated with system integrator Elektro Verbeke. "They initially provided a quotation without an integrated building automation system," explains managing director Freddy Boons, "but I was curious about the benefits of building automation for us, so I requested a quote with that included. It turned out to be hardly more expensive, as the TELETASK system requires less wiring while offering higher comfort and flexibility. So it was easy to make a decision."

In the old building, BOONS FIS had no automation system—it was a 25-year-old structure, after all. But things are different in the new facility. "When you're building, you do it right, using the best and most modern techniques," believes Freddy Boons.

Smooth installation and programming

Elektro Verbeke installed a TELETASK automation system, including a central control unit, DALI gateways and touch panels for lighting control. Verbeke handled the hardware installation, and the software configuration was handled by an external TELETASK partner. “Everything went perfectly,” says Freddy Boons. “It's important to work with knowledgeable people, and that was certainly the case here.”

Huge time savings with a central light switch

All the lighting in the new building is now integrated into the system. With one switch, users can turn all lights on or off at once. “That’s extremely convenient, as we have about 30 light groups and much more light fixtures” Freddy Boons explains. “Without central control, someone would spend 20 minutes every evening checking if all the lights were off. In the morning, we’d also have to turn them on one by one. Thanks to TELETASK, we can do everything with a single push of a button, saving a lot of time. Given that we moved to a building of about 3,000 m²- four times the size of the old one—these time and efficiency savings were key reasons for choosing integration.”

More comfort and lower energy consumption with motion sensors

Motion sensors have been installed in the workspaces, so the LED lighting automatically turns on or off depending on presence. This improves ease of use and comfort for employees, while enabling the company to operate more energy-efficiently, thereby reducing its carbon footprint. This was crucial for BOONS FIS, as the goal was to build a CO2-neutral facility, which includes the installation of a heat pump system.

Integrated sunshades

The sunshades are also integrated into the system. When the doors close at night, the sunshades automatically retract. “For us, the main priority was that everything is functional and easy to operate,” Freddy Boons explains. “Additionally, this automation contributes to the impression we make on clients who visit our reception and demo room. The system is very easy to use and pleasant to work with. Plus, since there's digital wiring running to the light points, we remain flexible if we want to make future adjustments—we are very satisfied with the TELETASK system.”
