HOME AUTOMATION: A MUST?

Does it still make sense to build and renovate without home automation?

Is it still feasible to build without an integrated home automation system? Or is this intelligent control simply a must in 2022? The short answer is that a modern home can no longer be built without it. Why not, you may ask? Well, here's why.

For optimal comfort

Nowadays, a house contains a lot of techniques: lighting circuits, sun shades, heating, air conditioning, access control, audio ... From a few dozen to several hundreds managed energy circuits in a larger home. If residents have to regulate all these systems manually and individually, they are daily found to forget to switch on or off, or to set something incorrectly or too late, don’t use because the user interfaces are too complex to handle. Or perhaps in a modern house there are simply too many manual interventions required to optimise the use of the equipment and manage their energy consumption, causing the residents to permanently lose comfort and probably also the related fire safety issues.

A full integrated /connected home automation system prevents this and makes controlling the environment easier and utmost pleasing for all residing family members and employees. For example, the control panels can offer buttons manage and automatically set various systems at once (scenario or 'scene setting’). The 'Go to sleep' button is one of these. When you push this button, the home automation system will switch off all appliances that don't need to be active at night, disconnect the necessary power sockets, switch off all lights inside and outside (may be with delayed actions as well), adjust the room temperatures (air conditioning and ventilation) in all available temperature zones, close the (garage) doors, retract the sun blinds, close the curtains, activate the burglar alarm system, activate the dish washer, activate the electric car charger at highest power, ... whatever.

The resident doesn't have to worry about anything anymore: one push on a button and the home automation system does the rest, if necessary across several buildings. Does the user have a separate garage or a pool house? All functions can be controlled perfectly from the main building. And while you sleep or are out, the system takes care of optimised use of your photovoltaic generated energy... even without clicking a single button.

For optimal energy management

Given the many technologies in and around the house, energy consumption can no longer be managed manually. Today, residents also need intelligent technology that, for example, runs the household appliances when the energy rate is the lowest and/or when the solar panels provide enough power.

Optionally, the home automation system stores the solar energy in a home battery, your hot water boiler, washing/ dish washing machine, tumble dryer,... to cover the basic consumption in the evening and at night, as good as free of charge. First, in the evening, the system provides power to everything that the resident uses to cook and relax. After going to bed, the system takes care of other important energy management.

For minimal fire risk

When the dishes are done and at night, the home automation system will disconnect the water supply and switch off the socket of the many wall socket plugged appliances like battery chargers for mobile devices, battery chargers for bicycles, uplighters, outdoor wall sockets,... This way, the system minimises the risk of fire. That is also perfectly possible when the residents are out of the house. Risks of damage or fire are minimised to an extreme low level.

For a beautiful interior

In order to control all those functions by the home automation system, the resident does not need a mishmash of separate control panels from different manufacturerslike for HVAC, lighting, sun blinds, audio, etc... Thanks to the TELETASK home automation system, the resident controls everything via a limited number of stylish touch-sensitive keypads, suitable for any interior.

The TELETASK panels are easily wired. One small data cable runs from one panel to the other. The operation is also very flexible. Perhaps a panel initially offered a button to control outdoor lighting, but then, after a while, the resident notices that he never uses it. With a conventional installation, the functions of the panels cannot be changed afterwards. With a TELETASK installation, the system integrator (specialised electrical contractor) can change the function of a button even remotely, with no need of a screwdriver or not even a visit to the customer location. The ideal service: fast, efficient, privacy proof and sustainable.

All the features we discussed can also be controlled via your smartphone and tablet. Wherever they are on the globe, residents can consult the home's energy parameters, switch indoor and outdoor lighting, adjust the room temperatures, check camera’s, check whether the children are home from school yet, open the door from remote site for the babysit or another visitor, and so on. TELETASK takes away your worries and many day-to-day unwants. You can concentrate on what you like the most in your life .

Does a partial installation serve any purpose?

Is a home automation system installed in only one part of the house not sufficient? Well, no, because then the advantages of comfort, safety and optimal energy consumption will be compromised. If the resident doesn't have all the systems integrated, they will have to walk around again to check whether the temperature in unconnected zones is right, to pull out plugs, to switch lights and appliances on and off ...

Of course there are situations in which a home automation system is less useful. In a small flat with only one bedroom, living room and bathroom, the techniques are probably limited. Here, a home automation system is nice to have, but it may not be a requirement. Most of the time, however, it is simply a must, because even in a smaller environment, a lot of technology can be present. Besides, a TELETASK installation is not only to be used today. Because of its flexibility and modular concept, it will also cover the needs of the next decades with even more equipment arriving. The TELETASK system will need to communicate with your home and garden robots?
